Clients are requesting computers to use just for internet use. Users are tired of updates and larger learning curves. They just want to check their e-mail and look for a few items on the internet. We are promoting the use of Netbooks to reduce our support, the constant and time-consuming recovery of MS Window products. As of March 2009 Microsoft control how netbooks are designed, changes are coming!
One company eager to change this dynamic is ARM Holdings,, a UK-based intellectually property company that designs, licenses and sells processors that are used in nearly all smartphones and most recently in Amazon's Kindle 2 e-book reader. ARM processors are lauded for their power efficiency, long battery life and low price.
ARM VP Drew emphasizes that Microsoft will have to face up to the rapidly dropping prices of upcoming ARM-based netbooks running Linux. "We're looking at prices as low as $199".
One well-known nonprofit recently switched to ARM chips. OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) Association announced it is dropping its AMD x86 processors and opting for low-power ARM-based processors in its next-generation XO-2 laptop. Its aim is longer battery life.
These ARM netbooks will start selling in April, June and August of 2009.

Wine enables Linux, Mac, BSD, and Solaris users run Windows applications without a copy of Microsoft Windows. Wine is free software under constant development. Many people find it useful in running a growing number of Windows programs, 11,652 applications currently in the database.
Wine is a translation layer (a program loader) capable of running Windows applications on Linux and other POSIX compatible operating systems. Windows programs running in Wine act as native programs would, running without the performance or memory usage penalties of an emulator, with a similar look and feel to other applications on your desktop.
Netbooks Microsoft Windows XP Home Operating System
"I love this machine. The day-to-day tasks are peppy and it behaves like a normal Windows XP machine. I have purchased a RAM upgrade and am waiting for my 2GB stick to arrive, but I have been using it with the 1GB installed and haven't had any issues. The main uses for this machine I see are internet, office, and other such basic tasks. However, I also maintain a couple websites and was able to install Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 and noticed no difference in performance on this machine from my powerful desktop."

"This little device continues to amaze me. It is running the Enterprise Edition of MS Office without any problem. Power is way beyond what I expected, XP is stable, battery life is excellent. The unit is a great value. Don't expect it to compete with a loaded tower, but it is way more than the average user needs."
